Camp Wehinahpay,
New Mexico
Camp
Wehinahpay, New Mexico located at an elevation of 9000 feet in the Lincoln
National Forest near Ruidoso, NM provided a memorable experience in
a beautiful setting. Our troop campsite was set in some of the most
beautiful forest land you have ever seen. Summer Camp provided an opportunity
to develop camping skills, earn merit badges, meet other Scouts and
participate in lots of fun, outdoor activities. Camp Wehinahpay emphasized
on activities that are naturals for a camp located in a National Forest
like hiking. Other programs unique to the Camp included: Mountain Man
Camp where we learned to throw a tomahawk like the mountain men did.
The chuckwagon was dedicated to the skills used by the pioneers of the
Old West. Camp Wehinahpay as one of the highest climbing towers where
we all took the challenge. OK, a few adults chickened out. Merit badges
included scout skills (pioneering, orienteering, emergency preparedness,
wilderness survival, etc.), nature/ecology (fishing, forestry, environmental
conservation, etc.), handicraft (basketry, woodcarving, & leatherwork)
and field sports (archery, rifle, & shotgun).
