Summer Camp
Camp Wehinahpay, New Mexico
June 21-28, 2008
Located at an elevation of 9000 feet in the Lincoln National Forest near Ruidoso, NM...this year’s Summer Camp wase a memorable experience in a beautiful setting. Each troop campsite was set in some of the most beautiful forest land you have ever seen.
Summer Camp provided an opportunity to develop camping skills, earn merit badges, meet other Scouts and participate in lots of fun, outdoor activities. Boy Scout Summer Camp is an environment in which the Scouts work together learning and teaching; it’s a learning by doing environment with activities from dawn until well after dusk.
Programs: Camp Wehinahpay offers a wide range of Summer Camp fun with an emphasis on the activities that are naturals for a camp located in a National Forest...hiking being a particularly attractive option in the Lincoln National Forest.
Additionally, the Camp offers C.O.P.E. (Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience) which is a great challenge for older scouts. Project COPE is established to give scouts the chance to find out just what the individual limitations are. Not on a physical level, but rather on levels of confidence, leadership, teamwork, communications, self esteem, trust, problem solving, decision making and, of course, perception. A full range of merit badge opportunities were available including scouting skills (pioneering, orienteering, emergency preparedness, wilderness survival, etc.), nature/ecology (fishing, forestry, environmental conservation, etc.), handicraft (basketry, woodcarving, & leatherwork) and field sports (archery, rifle, & shotgun).
